At a Whisky Flight tasting in the Marlborough Region of New Zealand on the South Island, I asked for their best New Zealand Whisky they had, and was offered a sample of this. It’s a Whisky aged for 8 Years in ex-Honey Mead Casks from a small town in the North-West Corner of the South Island, and it…is…amazing.

Episode 61: Slyrs Pedro Ximénez Finish Single Malt Whisky

When one of the family that owned the Lantenhammer Distillery set out to build his own and named it Slyrs, many in Germany weren’t paying too much attention. When they started producing world-class Whisky they quickly made a name for themselves. This offering was finished in ex-Pedro Ximénez Casks and the resulting Whisky is quite special.

Episode 60: Kinglake Double Wood Single Malt Whisky

The Kinglake Distillery is off-the-grid in rural Victoria and is surrounded by Australian Bushland. This Ausskey has an interesting mash bill, and is predominantly aged in American Oak but also some French Oak ex-Tawny Port barrels, which is unusual for Australian Whiskies and leads to quite an interesting and complex dram.
